Dr. Thomas M. Sayman, one of the last of the old-time medicine men, ran away from home at the age of nine and joined the P.T. Barnum Circus. At 18, he entered a medical college and studied for four years. As a teenager, he worked with medicine shows and grew curious about the products that were sold, prompting him to study and research such things - the beginning of the T. M. Sayman Products Company.
During his travels around the country, Dr. Sayman discovered the virtues of certain Indian herbs. Two years of research and trial and error taught him how to make an effective extract, which he then combined with other materials to produce the Dr. Sayman Healing Salve.
